Chlorophyll Monitoring based on
Satellite Images

Time series of Chlorophyll maps from July and August 2002. The chlorophyll concentrations are derived from SeaWiFS images with a spatial resolution of 1 km2. Grey colours are due to clouds. The maps are used for operational monitoring of chlorophyll in the Danish waters and the Baltic Sea and are used as an indicator of the amount of algae in the water and for locating potential toxic blooms. On July 16 a bloom occurred in the Baltic Sea, the algorithm saturated due to high concentrations (see arrows on the map).
